Chain Rule Chain Rule is the rule related to find out the derivatives. In this generally there are two functions. So this rule determines the derivative where two functions are involved. This rule is very important part of differentiation. Without chain rule the problem would be really complicated. This tool helps in easy calculation of differentiation of two different functions. Its scope is not limited to this but it is so wide. It has so many other applications as well. The two examples will give clear indication about its worth.The examples are shown below. Example 1:- Find the differentiation of 2 (2x+1) ^2 Solution:- Given function is 2 (2x+1) ^2 and this is a composite function. To find: - d/dx 2 (2x+1) ^2. Now d/dx 2 (2x+1) ^2 = 2 d/dx (2x+1) ^2 (because 2 is constant so comes out) So d/dx 2 (2x+1) ^2 = 2 x 2 (2x+1)^(2-1) d/dx (2x+1) 4 (2x+1) x 2 = 8 (2x+1) = 16x +8 So the differentiation of 2 (2x+1) ^2 is 16x +8. Example 2:- Find the differentiation of 3 (3x+1) ^2. Solution:- Given function is 3 (3x+1) ^2 and this is a composite function. To find: - d/dx 3 (3x+1) ^2. Now d/dx 3 (3x+1) ^2 = 3 d/dx (3x+1) ^2 (because 2 is constant so comes out) So d/dx 2 (2x+1) ^2 = 3 x 2 (3x+1)^2-1d/dx (3x+1) 6 (3x+1) x 3 = 18 (3x+1) = 54x + 18 So the differentiation of 3 (3x+1) ^2 is 54x +18.

Robert: The University of Delaware has a green that runs through the center of campus and ends at Main Street. Campus is easy to navigate and safe. You can easily bike anywhere around campus. There are shuttle buses from the further areas of campus that are easy to catch using the schools app. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Robert: Most professors are easy to reach during office hours. I recommend forming relationships with them early in the year so that they recognize you face-to-face. If you wait until the day before an exam to seek help, they will likely be less receptive than if you put in the necessary effort earlier. How would you describe the dorm liferooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Robert: The dining hall food is average. The dorms are a lot of fun, and I made life-long friends in my freshman dorm that I still talk to daily. The campus is set up very well, except for sporting events. The stadiums are all on the other side of campus, which makes students less inclined to attend sporting events. Which majors/programs are best represented and supported at University of Delaware? Robert: The engineering school (my field) was definitely well represented. My friends in business- and health-related majors always seemed happy with the resources at their disposal. I cannot recall any programs having a bad reputation. I studied engineering because I like applied math and physical sciences. I believe engineering is a never-ending process of optimization. This means that I will always have challenges to overcome, and the ability to grow; this pursuit is what led me to engineering. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Robert: Greek life plays a significant role at the University of Delaware, but there are lots of other things to get involved in too. I personally was on the mens rugby team. I recommend playing a sport, joining Greek life, or finding some other activity or club that interests you. I also recommend having close friends that you hang out with outside of the people you live with. Do not get so involved that you are overwhelmed and your grades suffer, but definitely find something to do outside of school. How helpful is the Career Center and other student support services? Robert: The best resource is the career fair (in the fall and spring). Go freshman year even if you have no idea what you want to do, especially if you are an undecided major. Just the experience of being there will make it less stressful in a few years when you are more serious about finding an internship or job. It is a great opportunity to network with professionals, and most of the booths do not get many interested students. If nothing else, you can grab a pair of free sunglasses, candy, and plenty of other free stuff. The career services website and the network of alumni helped me get my first job, so I highly recommend them. How are the various study areas such as libraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Robert: The library and dorm study areas are nice. I did not use them much, so I cannot comment much. They are never over-crowded until finals week. Describe the surrounding town. Robert: The green ends at Main Street. Main Street has plenty of places to eat or hang out. The closest major city is Philadelphia, so it is rare for people to leave campus to go to another area. The Christiana Mall is about 20 minutes away for anything that you cannot find closer. How big or small is the student body at University of Delaware? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Robert: Class sizes range depending on major and content. I felt a lot of my classes were a bit large. They are not large in comparison to other large state schools, but it is rare to find yourself in a classroom with 20 people. Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one you regret the most. Robert: One of my most memorable moments in college was my fall of junior year. We had just taken our first fluid mechanics exam, and we were getting them back. For those unfamiliar, it is a difficult class. As we were sitting there with our test grades, some happy, most disappointed, our professor gave a great speech. He pulled out a plastic bin and began filling it with a concrete chunk, some gravel, some pencils, crumbled up papers, and anything else close by. We sat wondering what he was doing, surely another fluids experiment that we were not in the mood to listen to. He opened it up to the class to explain what he was demonstrating. After a few minutes of silence, he finally stepped in to explain. Every object represented a moment. Some bigger or more important than others. He compared the giant concrete block to getting married or having your first child. The slightly smaller things represented events such as graduation or getting your first job. He continued moving through th e container until he came to the small pieces of gravel that were hardly visible. They represented the test that we had just taken. It was worth working hard and taking pride in success, but ultimately insignificant in the grand scheme of life. GMAT Scores To Cancel or Not to Cancel GMAT MBA Admissions Blog At the end of the GMAT, you will be asked whether you want to report your scores or cancel them. This is an important moment, because it is the only opportunity you will have to cancel your scores. Once you report them, you cannot reverse the decision. If you choose to report your scores, any schools you apply to will see them, even if you retake the test later. In addition, GMAC will automatically proceed to send your scores to any schools you specified at the beginning of the test. On the other hand, if you request to cancel your scores instead, they will not be sent out, and prospective schools will never be able to see them (although they will be able to see that you took the test and cancelled). Cancelled scores can then be reinstated for a $100 fee at any point in the next 60 days if you change your mind and decide not to retake the test. GMAT test-takers have always had the option to cancel their scores, but in the past, you would not be able to see your scores before cancelling them â€" you had to simply base your decision on how well you felt like they did. Now, due to a new policy introduced in June 2014, test-takers are able to see a preview of their IR, Quantitative, Verbal, and total scores (everything except the essay) before deciding. After this preview, you will be given two minutes to choose whether to report or cancel your scores. If you do not respond within the given timeframe, your scores will be automatically cancelled. After taking a 3 ½-hour test, you will probably be worn-out, which can hinder your judgment. Moreover, since there is a time limit, you will not have a lot of time to think. Remember: schools may be impressed if they see that you retook the test and got a better score, but it will definitely not look good if you receive a lower score the second time. Critical Reasoning Question 13-Architecture Schools BobbiM Feb 15, 2014 Out architecture schools must be doing something wrong.  Almost monthly we hear of domes and walkways collapsing in public places, causeing great harm to human life.  In their pursuit of some dubious aesthetic, architects design buildings that sway, crumble, and even shed windows into our cities streets.  This kind of incompetence will disappear only when the curricula of our architecture schools devote less time to so-called artistic considerations and more time to the basics of good design. Which of the following, if true, would most seriously weaken the argument above? A.  All architecture students are given training in basic physics and mechanics. B.  Most of the problems with modern buildings stem from poor construction rather than poor design. C.  Less than 50% of the curriculum at most architecture schools is devoted to aesthetics. D.  Most buildings manage to stay in place well past their projected life expectancies. E.  Architects study as long and as intensively as most other  professionals. Think you know the answer? The correct answer is B. Since the author concludes from evidence of collapsing buildings that architecture schools should spend more time teaching the basics of good design,  she obviously assumes that the buildings are falling down because of poor design, not poor construction.  (B) destroys the argument by demolishing this assumption. The author claims architecture schools dont focus enough on basic design, not basic physics and mechanics, so (A)s no weakener.  As for (C), the author never spells out how much of the curriculum should be spent on design, so more than half may not be enough for her.  (D) distorts the argument-the author never claimed that most buildings are falling down, so the fact that most of them stay up doesnt matter.  As for (E), other professionals are beyond the scope-the issue is how much architecture schools focus on basic design rather than on more lofty artistic concerns.
